shifting blocks

This week’s It’s a String Thing #76 involved three new-to-me tangles, Fjord, Oolo and Trumpits.

When I drew this, my shoulders were aching from a workout the previous day. My hand was tremoring a little, and as a result all my initial lines turned out slightly wonky. So I decided to thicken some of the lines with a Pigma Micron 08 to hide the wonkiness.

Soon, I was thickening not just the wonky lines, but other lines too. I no longer detested the lines on the tile, and instead I was having fun!

Varying the line weight is something I picked up from hesedetang. She has a unique tangling style that involves playing around with thick and thin lines. I wasn’t trying to imitate her here (partly because I know I can’t), but borrowing the idea of thicker lines did help this particular tile.
